A brief history of the people & organisatons who owned the house & its grounds.
Research suggests that about 1874, Edward Penrose Arnold-Forster (1851-1927) bought the land in Burley in Wharfedale from Thomas Emsley & proceeded to build what became known as Cathedine on the plot.
On 26th August 1875 Edward P Arnold-Forster married Edith Mary Ford (1852-1942) at Cathedine, near Brecon, South Wales. They came to reside at Cathedine, Burley in Wharfedale.
1875 - 1913 Edward P & Edith Mary Arnold-Forster (In 1913 they moved to Portsmouth)
1913 - 1915 ????
1915 - 1922 Fred Denby Moore (1863-1951) Wool Merchant (Lived at The Lawn, Main Street, Burley in Wharfedale 1905-1915)

1923 - 1928 James Duncan Law (renamed Cathedine to Blackwood)
1929 - 1939 George Herbert Pepper (reverted back to Cathedine) Research on-going - possibly chairman of Pepper, Lee & Co of Wyke & Bradford. Textile manufacturers. Also possible director of Salts Mill, Saltaire.
1939 Sept - Cathedine requisitioned by the War Office for the army.
1940 - 1945 Nurses home for Middleton Sanatorium (Ilkley)
1946 - 1947 Yorkshire Association of Baptist Churches / Baptist Holiday Fellowship
1970 in the grounds of The Court with an entrance off Station Road, was built 16 apartments & 15 bungalows, making up the retirement housing complex of Hanover Gardens.
1973 - 1974 Burley Middle School now Burley Oaks Primary School was built partly on the lower section of The Court's grounds that included another "Peppers Pond".
At the time of government re-organisation in 1974 the children's home was transferred to Bradford Council.
1994 The main building was empty awaiting demolition. Gallery images courtesy of Sally Gunton.
1995 onwards the first properties of "The Copse" housing development were sold.
