Sandholme Garage / Orchard Service Station - Motor vehicle services & fuel filling station, Bradford Road, Burley in Wharfedale
Possibly the site of the "Old Toll House" for the turnpike extension from Fox's corner Menston to Otley Road built 1838.
Believe it was founded c1922 by William Ingham Warburton of Warburton Brothers Garage (44 - 46 Main Street, Burley in Wharfedale). William Warburton was also the conductor of Burley Brass Band. In the late 1920s it was called Sandholme Garage & run by a motor engineer called Harry Normington (1884-1946).
The filling station supplied Benzol fuel under the "National" brand. This was made by what became British Petroleum (BP).
At some point it was renamed Orchard Service Station, which is what its known as to this day. 1967 - 1972 Brian Riley Limited, Orchard Service Station. Fuel & Car Sales Agents and Dealers.
